The SPD awards recognize excellence in visual storytelling and editorial design. For the SPD 55 competition, Proto<\/em> won two merit awards: one for Best Illustration (Cover), for its Winter 2019 cover, and one for Best Illustration (Spread), for a feature it published in its Winter 2019 issue called \u201cThe Gut Hypothesis.\u201d <\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

For the 2019 Content Marketing Awards\u2014the leading international awards program for content creation and distribution\u2014Proto<\/em> won best Healthcare\/Medical Publication and was also named a finalist for the Best Content Marketing Program in Healthcare. <\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Proto: Best Editorial Design <\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the Custom Publishing – Trade\/Brand\/Institutional\/Educational category, two of Proto<\/em>\u2019s magazine covers were singled-out: one featuring small replicas of human organs and the other a photo collage for a story about genealogy. A feature story spread was also recognized for its unique representation of a bionic pancreas. The distinguishing work was featured in the Pub 53 Annual. <\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF SCIENCE WRITERS, 2018<\/strong>
Proto: Excellence in Institutional Writing, Honorable Mention<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

NASW\u2019s Excellence in Institutional Writing Award recognizes high-caliber science writing produced on behalf of an institution or other non-media organization. Out of more than 200 entries, Proto<\/em>\u2019s Feature story \u201cWhole Again\u201d was among just three entries recognized.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

AMERICAN ILLUSTRATION AND AMERICAN PHOTOGRAPHY, 2019<\/strong>
Proto: Best Illustrations of 2018<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

From over 7,000 submissions, two of Proto<\/em>\u2019s illustrations were chosen to appear in the American Illustration 38 annual award book. One of the images, by artist Michael Mapes, was created for \u201cKnots in the Family Tree,\u201d Proto<\/em>\u2019s feature story about using genealogy databases to unlock secrets about major diseases. The other image, by artist Katrin Rodegast, was created for \u201cHear This,\u201d a feature story about how research advances are helping people who suffer from hearing loss.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n
